The Finance Minister had asked for Rs. 10 crores as damages after Mr. Kejriwal and other AAP leaders accused him of corruption during his 13-year tenure as the boss of Delhi’s cricket association DDCA. Mr. Jaitley filed a second case last year after Mr. Kejriwal’s lawyer Ram Jethmalani used a slur while cross-examining him and said the term had been authorized by his client. Today. a joint plea by Mr. Jaitley and Mr. Kejriwal was moved before a Delhi court by their lawyers to settle the row.
Last month, Mr. Kejriwal offered three such apologies to come out of the legal morass of more than 30 defamation cases. AAP leaders say the taxman-turned-politician decided to “amicably sort” out pending cases since they were “taking a toll on the already strained resources of the party and individuals.”
Mr. Arvind Kejriwal today apologized to Arun Jaitley.
Kejriwal along with AAP’s Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh and party spokesperson Ashutosh, in a joint letter have expressed their apology to Jaitley.
Here’s the full text of the letter.
Dear Shri Arun Jaitley Ji,
I had made certain statements about you and your family in December 2015 and thereafter in connection with your tenure as the president of the Delhi and District Cricket Association. These allegations also form part of the subject matter of proceedings currently pending adjudication before the Hon’ble Delhi High Court an Ld.CMM, Patiala House Court, New Delhi.
These allegations made by me were based on information and papers furnished to me by certain individuals who represented to have first-hand insight into the affairs of DDCA. However, I have recently discovered that the information and the imputations contained therein are unfounded and unwarranted and I was clearly misinformed into making these allegations.
Therefore, I unequivocally withdraw all the allegations made by me in question whether made in print, electronic or social media against you. I offer my sincere apology to you and your family members for any harm caused to your reputation as a consequence of my allegations.
Though we belong to two different political parties, I believe that we should end the unsavory litigations between us and serve the people of our country to the best of your ability.
With warm regards
